ACADEMIC EVALUATION

The academic year is from April to March and is divided into two terms. Academic evaluation of the students is as objective as it is stringent. Regular classroom tests and periodic assessment are indicative of scholastic achievement. The results enable the teachers as well as students to re-assess their orientation and take corrective measures where required, and accord due attention to subjects and topics in which the child may need additional assistance. Apart from the unit tests, terminal examinations are organized twice each year. The half-yearly examinations take place in September/October while the final examinations are conducted in March every year. Grades are awarded for performance in non-core subjects such as Music, Art & Craft, Sports and Personality Developments based on the performance on projects and assignments. All the results are intimated to parents.

FACULTY

The members of the teaching staff are chosen not only for their own intellectual skills but also for their ability and enthusiasm in communicating them to boys and girls of all ages. The teachers are well supported by ancillary and administrative staff. Teachers are encouraged to be flexible and individual in their approach. Every possible care is taken to ensure that our teaching staff is of the best quality available. The role of teachers extends well beyond classroom instructions. All faculty members are also encouraged to upgrade their skills and update their knowledge constantly. The School has one of THE LOWEST STUDENT – TEACHER RATIO of 30:1. The comparatively small number of studnets in each class enables our teachers to give attention to each student both inside and outside the classroom. Parents and students alike will find our teachers accessible for one-to-one consultations.

ACADEMICS

A sound and basic education is the very backbone of a child’s personality. In order to provide an idea of how a child will progress, the paragraphs below outline the broad aims of our teaching at different levels. The classes are primarily divided in three sections viz, Primary (Std I - V), Junior (Std VI – VIII) & Senior (Std IX – X) section. Inorder to provide an idea of how a child will progress, the paragraphs below will outline the broad aims of our teaching at different levels.

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAMME

In the Primary section, the students get a glimpse into the relation between the various academic disciplines and their everyday life. In order to pursue this objective, the examples employed by the teacher are from the everyday contexts so that the students are able to form a connection with what they study in the classroom and their experiences in everyday lives. This methodology also gives a platform to the teachers to evaluate the capabilities of the students. Motivational gifts like hand-writing books, stickers, pens, badges, book marks etc. are used to encourage the students to actively and productively contribute to the class discussions. This method motivates the students to thoroughly read and understand the topic. Moreover, it also greatly facilitates in developing their level of confidence.

JUNIOR SCHOOL PROGRAMME

In the Junior Section (Std VI to VIII), students build on the foundations laid out in the previous years. The focus is on learning skills of reading, writing, listening, speaking, IT capability, problem solving, observation, enquiry, exploration and measurement. New challenges are met as communications, reasoning, problem solving amongst others become more complex. Children are encouraged to speak and perform at assemblies, concerts, drama productions and, so, gain confidence in their ability to communicate to a, wider audience. English being an international language, special emphasis is given to developing the student's conversational and communication skills in English.

SENIOR SCHOOL OR ICSE PROGRAMME

In the Senior section (Std IX to X), students start preparing for the ICSE (The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, New Delhi) Examination of Class X. From Std VIII onwards, students are explained the methodology of the examinations for the ICSE and are encouraged to perform accordingly. The school offers its students a variety of subjects giving the students an opportunity to specialize in their chosen areas of interest. Students take certain compulsory subjects and also select subjects of interest to them from a range of choices apart from Indian languages. Socially Uselful and Productive Work (SUPW) and Community Service play an important part in the programme. Std X take the ICSE exams in February – March each year.

WORKSHOPS

The school organizes a series of workshops in order to address the concerns faced by students, parents/ guardians and teachers. The workshops can be broadly classified into two parts: academic and issues faced by parents/ guardians, teachers and students.

Academic workshops: The principal objective of these workshops is career counseling. In the present scenario, most of the students are quite overwhelmed by the number of career options available. These workshops are of two kinds: a) for students of Junior section and b) for students of senior section. The former are at an initial stage of making academic decisions. Rather than leaving them at the mercy of external (unauthentic) sources, the school provides proper counseling to them. For the latter, the counselors interview each student in order to know their academic interest and capabilities. On the basis of interview findings and academic record of the students, personal profiles of each and every student are created. The Principal & the career counselor discuss the profiles with the students in presence of their parents and guide them in choosing the best possible academic option.

Workshops for parents/ guardians and teachers: the school also organizes a workshop for parents/ guardians and teachers. The visiting counselor’s expertise lies in counseling people of varied age groups on Study Skills, Parenting Skills, Teacher’s Empowerment, Memory Workshop, Personality Development, etc. The workshop greatly facilitates the participants in addressing the concerns they face in their everyday contexts, for example: parenting issues, widening ideological gap between parents/ guardians and children, peer pressure, time management, stress management etc. The workshop has assisted the participants in addressing their concerns in a more objective and productive ways.
